Internet Download Manager (IDM) is a utility and productivity tool developed and published by an American company called Tonec Inc. which is headquartered in New York City. The software is available only for Microsoft Windows, and its primary function is to manage and speed-up downloads. It is capable of managing and scheduling downloads, with resume and recovery functions if the download is interrupted because of a power outage, lost connection or any other network issue. The software is compatible with Windows 7 and above and is written in C, C++. The software works on a platform like x64 and IA-32. It is licensed as shareware and is available in 15 languages.
Internet Download Manager supports a large variety of proxy servers such as redirected cookies, HTTP and FTP protocols, firewall, MPEG video and MP3 audio. The software efficiently collaborates with Avan Browser, Opera, MSN Explorer, AOL, MyIE2, Netscape and many other popular browsers to manage the download. The users have well received the software, many of the famous tech sites have said that it is one of the must-have software out there. CNET gave it a rating of 4.5 stars out of 5, and Softpedia gave it a rating of 4.1.
Downloading speed acceleration
The software is capable of increasing the speed of downloads by about five times, using its technology of file segmentation. Internet Download Manager segments downloaded files and reuse a connection without having to re-connect and re-login to provide the best downloading speed and performance without wasting data or speed.
Supports most browsers
The download manager supports most of the popular browsers, which includes Chrome, IE, Firefox, AOL, Netscape, Avant Browser and many others. The software is capable of browser integration due to its "Advanced Browser Integration" feature and takes over the browsers downloading process.
Recovery and resume
The software is capable of resuming any incomplete downloads that may have stopped precisely from where it left off. The error recovery and resume capability the software comes with allows it to restart the download of a broken or interrupted file, which may have stopped due to connection error, computer shutdowns, power failure or any other unexpected situations.
The software is capable of starting with just a single click. Once you click a file to be downloaded in the browser, IDM then takes over and accelerates the download. There is no special action required to download a file through IDM; it is capable of automatically catching the downloads and supports the HTTPS, HTTP, MMS and FTP protocols.
The software comes with a scheduler that is capable of scheduling a download; you can make a schedule of the downloads that you need, the software will automatically connect to the internet, start downloading. After finishing the downloads, you can make it disconnect from the internet, or it can even shut down your computer after completing the downloads.
